Summer Tag Sale at Big Duck Ranch Benefits Two Local Charities

Flanders – Friends of The Big Duck and Flanders Village Historical Society, both local non-profit organizations, welcome the arrival of the East End summer with the 3rd Annual Tag Sale at Big Duck Ranch, 1012 Flanders Road (Route 24), Flanders. The sale will be held on Saturday, July 5, 10 AM – 5 PM, with a rain date of Sunday, July 6.
The grass field behind The Big Duck will be filled with tables of gently used household items, home décor, small furniture, antiques and collectibles. All the proceeds from the sales will benefit Friends of The Big Duck and Flanders Village Historical Society.
Friends of The Big Duck is the Southampton-Town-appointed steward of Big Duck Ranch, where the beloved icon sits. The organization landscapes the garden, maintains the Long Island Duck Farming Exhibit in the Victorian Barn (open that day 11 AM – 3 PM), and services the public bathrooms.
Flanders Village Historical Society promotes an understanding and appreciation of the historical and cultural heritage of Flanders to restore a sense of place among the residents and preserve local history. The organization maintains a website: www.flandersvillagehistoricalsociety.org.

Both admission and parking for the event are free. Cars should enter at Otter Hole Neck Road, just east of The Big Duck and park in the back of the field. For more information, call 631-284-3737, e-mail friendsofthebigduck2020@gmail.com or visit “Events” on Friends of The Big Duck Facebook page.

“Historical Photographs of Flanders”
on View at Town Hall

From February 3 – March 28, the Flanders Village Historical Society is presenting an exhibit of 16 photographs chosen not only for their historical interest, but also for their quality and artistic value. “Historical Photographs of Flanders” can be seen on the first floor of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road, Southampton.

The timespan of the works ranges from 1872-1963. Three of the photographs were taken by noted photographer George Bradford Brainerd and another by C. Manley DeBevoise. Respected sources such as the Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library and Suffolk County Historical Society contributed to this exhibit.

This is the second viewing of the exhibit, which was originally displayed in late 2023 at the David W. Crohan Community Center, Flanders. The Town of Southampton had funded the exhibit through a grant. Having received positive feedback on that show, the Flanders historical society now hopes to reach a broader audience in the township.

Southampton Town Hall is open to the public on weekdays from 8:30 AM – 4 PM. For more information, contact FVHS Secretary Janice Jay Young at 631-284-3737 or flandersvillagehistoricalsociety@yahoo.com. The Hampton Bays Public Library also plans to show the Flanders photos this summer.
